I bought these as I wanted something in the house that I know won't go out of date and that I can grab in an emergency and take with me. The ammo tin is solid and feels like a genuine army 30cal ammo tin. Plan on buying several more over the next few months to increase my supplies.

My family and I love going hiking and camping, but we always worried about being adequately prepared in case of an emergency. We wanted something compact, long-lasting, and nutritious, so we decided to try out the "Emergency Food Ration Bars" from BDH. Let me tell you, we were impressed! The metal ammo can packaging alone is pretty cool. It feels super sturdy and genuinely waterproof – perfect for tossing in the trunk of our car. It's peace of mind knowing our emergency food supply is protected from the elements. The bars themselves are surprisingly palatable. They aren’t gourmet, but they have a pleasant, almost oatmeal-cookie flavor, and they're definitely filling. We did a taste test with our kids, and they didn't seem to mind them either! What's truly reassuring is the 20-year shelf life. Knowing these bars will be good for years and years gives us enormous confidence. We won't have to worry about them expiring before we get a chance to use them (hopefully, not in an emergency!). This isn't just for camping anymore; we're even considering keeping a can in our home's "disaster preparedness kit" now. Overall, our experience with the BDH Emergency Food Ration Bars has been incredibly positive. They're a smart, practical, and reassuring addition to any outdoors enthusiast’s gear, or simply as a safety net for unexpected situations at home. We highly recommend them!

I have not tasted it yet, as it is intended for emergencies only. It says for 9 days, per 2000 calories per day. But each bag contains 4 bars with 230 calories each. 4 x 230 = 920 calories per bag, 12 bags are only 11040 calories. For 2000 calories per day requirement, 11040 calories is only 5.5 days. Yet the description says for 9 days. The good thing about these bags have extended long shelf life, and the ammo can is nice.

I’ll start this review with a well-known paradigm: “In an uncertain world . . .” Be prepared. The fact is, no one knows the future, but it’s easy to become complacent in the present. And anyone sentient and living in the real world can’t help but notice that poop happens, and it happens without warning. With that in mind, the BDH Food Ration Bars make a great addition to an emergency preparedness kit; the pre-packed assemblage of survival gear you grab when there’s only time to grab one thing and run.The ingredients, wheat, sugar and glucose, without vitamins or minerals, are not what I consider a well-rounded or healthy diet, however, caught in an unexpected and tragic civic event, when survival is ones only concern, I suppose they surpass “better than nothing,” and you’ll likely be glad they’re on hand. It’s either that or eat the kids, although the latter would probably be the healthier alternative. Sometimes tough choices have to be made. The metal ammo case is most of the weight, and unless absolutely necessary, will be abandoned when the time comes to run, or the bars stowed elsewhere, so it can be filled with ammo or other survival gear, like filtered water straws. Each bar is very dense and individually vacuum packed, and although I can’t say for sure, appears waterproof enough without the ammo case.I don’t know why survival bars composed of 20% saturated fat and sugar are the diet necessary in a desperate situation, other than perhaps the ingredients have a long shelf life. On the other hand, if things become hopeless enough, anything will do.I honestly don’t have any prior experience that would allow me to make a fair judgement as to the efficacy of these survival bars, other than to take the sellers assertions on faith; I’ll have to leave that to the reader. That being the case, in fairness, I’ll rate this survival kit 5-Stars because I don’t know any better.

I haven't tried any of the food yet, but it is vacuum sealed and packaged well. I have no doubt that the food will hold up over time based on the quality of the packaging. The metal ammo can it comes in is very impressive. I have a different storage system for our emergency supplies, so I won't be using the can to hold the emergency ration bars; however, this can is sturdy and I'm sure I'll find some other use for it.
